The Financial Times defines an entrepreneurial mindset as a specific state of mind that influences human conduct towards entrepreneurial activities and outcomes. Moreover, a person who has an entrepreneurial mindset is most likely drawn to opportunities, innovation, and the creation of new value.
While not all people dream of owning a business, everyone can be considered an entrepreneur. By having an entrepreneurial mindset, people can find success in the field upon which they have chosen to build their professional lives.

“When we choose to embark on a path not chartered, we are engaging in a small act of entrepreneurship. Being entrepreneurial is essentially about thinking and doing something that we have not done before, in order to achieve a desirable goal or outcome,” explains Dr. Donna M. De Carolis, a strategic consultant and the dean of the Charles D. Close School of Entrepreneurship at Drexel University.
According to Dr. Carolis, cultivating an entrepreneurial mindset allows an individual to assess situations clearly, design clever alternatives, and make informed decisions that could open further opportunities.
She adds: “We are selling ourselves short if we do not define ourselves as entrepreneurs—if we choose to accept that entrepreneurs are the other people who take a chance, who think and act differently when challenges arise.”

With endless choices and challenges inherent in a business venture, having an entrepreneurial mindset can definitely change the course of one’s life. Thinking innovatively and acting on that innovation is an indication of thinking like an entrepreneur.
